Physician's Progress/Discharge Report

After the PPI, WCB Saskatchewan relies on the PPP to follow a worker's recovery. It expects one whenever the condition, diagnosis or treatment changes, and about every three weeks while the worker is off work, and your recovery score and restrictions shape benefits and the return-to-work plan.

What the PPP is for

The PPP updates WCB Saskatchewan on the worker’s recovery, restrictions and treatment after your initial report. If recovery doesn’t progress, WCB offers advanced assessment and treatment or expedited appointments, which you can ask for on this form. The same form serves as the discharge report once the worker has recovered or returned to work.

Who completes it

The treating physician completes and signs the whole form. There’s no worker section.

How to fill in the report

Header and examination

Fill in the clinic, doctor number and worker details as on the PPI, with the WCB claim number, and the date of this examination.

Injury and recovery

Give the body part, current diagnosis, subjective complaints and objective findings. Report results of any diagnostics since your last report and forward the reports. Score recovery from 0 to 10, where 10 is pre-injury function. If recovery is slower than expected, explain why in the space given.

Time off and restrictions

Say whether the worker is off work or working with restrictions. If either applies, the form asks you to complete the rest. Fill in investigations, the treatment plan with named medication and providers, and the estimated restrictions with numbers.

Requests to WCB and other factors

Tick whether you’d like WCB to arrange or expedite a diagnostic test or specialist assessment, and name it. Record any health or non-health factors affecting recovery in the comments, such as a second job, mental health or a workplace dispute.

Return to work and next appointment

Give the expected duration of the effects and a return-to-work date. Say whether a transitional return to work has been discussed with the worker and employer, whether one is arranged, and any safety or medication concerns. Add the next appointment date so WCB knows when to expect the next report.

Common reasons it’s delayed or unpaid

  • No recovery score, or a low score with no explanation of the delay.
  • Restrictions copied from the last report without being reassessed.
  • No next appointment date.
  • Illegible, incomplete or unsigned reports, which WCB won’t pay for.
  • More than one report on the same day, when only one fee is paid.

Submitting and who pays

Submit the PPP through WCB online services or by fax to the number on the form, signed and dated. WCB pays the fee directly when you invoice it: $47.87 under the schedule effective April 1, 2025, plus $16.25 for online submission. Invoices received more than 12 months after the service aren’t paid.

Questions

Questions we hear a lot.

How often should I send a PPP?

Whenever the worker's condition, diagnosis or treatment changes, or a medical review is needed. If the worker hasn't returned to work, WCB Saskatchewan asks for a review and report about every three weeks.

How much does WCB Saskatchewan pay for the PPP?

The fee schedule effective April 1, 2025 lists the PPP at $47.87 under fee code 660, plus $16.25 under code 661 when you submit it through WCB online services.

Can WCB speed up an MRI or specialist appointment?

The PPP asks whether you'd like WCB to arrange or expedite a diagnostic test or specialist assessment. Tick it and name the test or specialty. WCB also offers advanced assessment and treatment when recovery stalls.

Is there a separate discharge report?

No. The PPP is the progress and discharge report, so use it for the final visit too.

Is patient information secure?

Yes. Medulla has a SOC 2 Type II report from an independent auditor, is HIPAA, PIPEDA, and PHIPA compliant, and is built and hosted in Canada, so patient data stays in the country and never gets pasted into consumer AI tools. Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest. See how we protect patient data.
