The difference

Paperwork, finished on the encounter page.

AI form tools usually live in another tab. They fill from a note you paste in and hand you a PDF to file yourself, and the patient's section waits until they are back at the front desk.

The bolted-on way

  • Open the form tool in another tab and paste in the note or the patient's details.
  • Print the patient's section for them to fill in at the clinic, then wait for it to come back.
  • Download the finished PDF and upload it to the chart yourself.
  • Keep track yourself of which forms the plan called for.

The Medulla way

  • Fill from the drawer on the encounter page, with details, medications, and history read from the open chart.
  • Email the patient a secure link to fill in their part on the form itself, before or after the visit.
  • Save the finished PDF to the patient's chart in one click.
  • Forms the plan calls for arrive as suggested tasks, and approving one fills its form.

You and your patient fill one form, and it lands in the chart without you leaving the encounter.

How it works

Filled from the visit, reviewed on the PDF, saved to the chart.

  1. 01

Pick the form, or approve the one your plan called for

Search your practice's forms on the encounter's Forms tab and click Fill. When your plan orders blood work, the suggested task already names the lab requisition, and approving the task fills it.

  2. 02

Medulla fills what the record supports

It reads the visit, the appointment, the patient's details, and the chart you have open in your EMR. A field the record can't answer stays blank for you to complete.

  3. 03

Review it on the PDF, then save it to the chart

The filled form opens as the real PDF. Click any field to change it, then print it, download it, or save it to the patient's chart.

Forms

The chart, the visit, and the patient fill the form together.

  • Filled from the open chart

In the drawer, the patient's demographics, medications, and history come from the chart open in Med Access or your Oscar-based EMR. You don't paste anything in.

  • Your patient fills their part

Send the patient a secure link to their section. They confirm their date of birth, fill it in on the form itself from any device, and send it back to you.

  • Back and forth until it's complete

If an answer is missing, send the form back to the patient. Fill again completes your part from the visit and keeps every answer the patient gave.

  • Ready before the visit

Fill a form from the patient list or from their appointment, before you see them. Medulla uses the appointment and the patient's pre-visit triage answers.

  • One upload for the whole practice

Upload a fillable PDF once and everyone in your practice can fill it. Add a standing instruction, like "Always tick fasting", and Medulla follows it on every fill.

  • Ask fills forms too

Tell Ask "Fill the lab requisition for a CBC and ferritin", or attach any PDF to the conversation and ask Medulla to fill it for the patient.

Questions

Questions we hear a lot.

Which forms can Medulla fill?

Any PDF with fillable fields, the boxes you can type into or tick in a PDF reader. That covers most provincial requisitions, insurance and disability claims, workers' compensation reports, and referral forms. Browse Canadian medical forms.

Where does Medulla get the answers from?

From the visit, the patient's chart in your EMR, and anything you add for the fill, such as recent results or a document the form needs.

What if the record doesn't have an answer?

The field stays blank. Medulla fills only what the record supports, and you complete the rest on the form.

How does the patient fill in their part?

Medulla sends them a secure link. They fill in their part on the form from any device and send it back, and their answers appear on your form for you to finish.

Does the finished form go into my EMR?

Yes. Save it to the patient's chart in Med Access or your Oscar-based EMR in one click.

Can I fill a form before I see the patient?

Yes. You can fill a form, or send the patient their part, before the visit. With less in the record to read from, more of the form is left for you to complete.

Do I still review the form?

Always. Every filled form opens for your review before it goes anywhere, and you can change any field.

Is patient information secure?

Yes. Medulla has a SOC 2 Type II report from an independent auditor, is HIPAA, PIPEDA, and PHIPA compliant, and is built and hosted in Canada, so patient data stays in the country and never gets pasted into consumer AI tools. Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest. See how we protect patient data.
